Description
Virmari Garcia-Davila identifies as a Guatemalan/Nicaraguan/American who lives in the United States. "The way my work relates to Guatemala textiles is through the influence of labor, color, and its connection to documentation. Ever since I began to learn about my family history from Guatemala and Nicaragua, the textile of Guatemala became an admiration of mine through its strength of resilience. The resilience of persevering through time and telling history of people that were almost gone. The sense of retaining and preserving history became a focal point of my works. I used the history of my family here in America to tell our stories especially someone who is multicultural by useusing materials of home and learning Guatemala techniques like weaving. I try to learn more about my family’s history through my father’s stories from Guatemala especially our indigenous side to preserve stories of the present and past ."
