Title
"Xocomil" and "Dandelion"
Subject
My landscape paintings are created by amplifying and redefining the effect of light, revealing the plane changes and transforming colors. This so-called stained glass style was formed as I was traveling around the towns surrounding Lake Atitlan in search for a new artistic style. I realized that the colors of the lake were ever-changing not only by the light but by my moods. At the same time, I was refreshingly reminded that the designs of Guatemalan textiles reflected how the people of each town viewed the same nature from a different perspective.
It was only natural that I then went on and tried to express how the world can be seen distinctive from person to person as if it is seen through “glass”, which is “stained” by one’s life experiences. For the past ten years, I have experimented with this style and celebrated the beauty of Guatemalan nature in its natural form and as represented in the textile. I hope that my celebration will resonate with my audience and be the voice that says, “The beauty comes from inside you."
