Description
This piece by American textile artist Stephen Tornero incorporates "Ikat" techniques related to the dye and resist methods used in Guatemalan weaving. Stephen Tornero explains, "I bound and resisted the yarns before dyeing them to create this pattern of blue and red waves, resembling the LED light display inside a car wash. All the yarns in the piece are hand-dyed and then hand-woven on a 10-harness European 'jack' style loom in a twill structure. I enjoy using these traditional techniques to create the shapes and patterns in the work, blending past and present."
